New Post for Birmingham Dean
14 September 2009

The Bishop of Birmingham wishes to announce that after careful consideration and prayer Bob and Sheila Wilkes will be moving to the Diocese of Oxford. The Very Revd Bob Wilkes has been Dean of Birmingham since March 2006.

Bob has been offered the post of  Priest-in-Charge of St Michael at the Northgate in Oxford City Centre. He will become City Rector for Oxford. St. Michael’s is an ancient Church in the centre of the city with a committed Sunday congregation and much potential for midweek ministry among the local businesses and the many tourists who pass by. The City rector has a particular call to relate with the City Council, both in its policy making and with its staff.

We wish Bob, Sheila and their whole family every happiness and the assurance of our prayers as they move into the next stage of their life and ministry.

The Very Revd Bob Wilkes said: "“We are sure that it is God’s leading to take up this post in Oxford, and we are looking forward to a new challenge in ministry and a new chapter in our family life.  However, I also feel sad to be leaving the City and Diocese where I have been happy to serve.  We wish Birmingham, its Christian Churches and all its faith communities joy and prosperity in living together positively.”
